GPS death phenomenon

　　Like pay phones, getting lost is a disappearing phenomenon. The first suborbital navigation systems were introduced more than 50 years ago, and today more than 70 satellites orbit the Earth twice a day, and cars, phones and watches can use their signals to track every step we take.

　　Most people think this is a good thing. Knowing where we are is peace of mind; we always know which path is the shortest, saving time and fuel. GPS technology also appears to make outdoor adventures safer. Search and rescue operations fell from 3,216 in 2004 to 2,568 in 2014, according to the National Park Service.

　　Convenience comes at a price: "they" know where we are at all times. More disturbing are the stories of GPS failures: In March 2015, a man following GPS directions on a broken bridge in east Chicago killed his wife; in 2010, the Nicaraguan army crossed over in pursuit of rebels At the national border, when they arrived in Costa Rica, after being accused, they shouted that they were wronged, saying that Google Maps led the wrong way; in Death Valley, many people were led astray by GPS, which is the famous "GPS death phenomenon". In most cases, this is because the software cannot receive accurate data on closed or poor communication roads, and the bright road on the screen may be the highway to hell.
