GPS track

About the track. Track is a track composed of discrete waypoints automatically recorded by GPS at regular intervals. GPS will intelligently record the points in the track to save space: when moving in a straight line at high speed, the waypoints are very sparse, and when moving in a slow curve, the waypoints are very dense. I am not advocating that the track is recorded at all times. Because first, the track will take up a lot of storage space; second, if you deviate from the main road temporarily along the way, such as seeing the scenery, going to the toilet, etc., the track will be very confusing. Third, it is also very power-consuming to keep the GPS on and record the track. So when is the best time to record the track? In my opinion, the track should be recorded between two points when the terrain, road conditions are extremely difficult, or when it is dark. For example, you must follow the designated route to cross the swamp or something. If you go wrong, you may fall into quicksand. Veteran hiker "Free Feeling" once traveled to the Guge ruins in the Ngari region of Tibet, came out at night to watch the sunset, and got lost in the valley after dark. With both compasses inoperative, it almost fell into a swamp quagmire. General GPS can record 2000-10000 waypoints as track, and it is necessary to save the key track frequently for the return journey. By the way, TrackBack tracks are sometimes unreliable and should still be judged manually.

How do you find your location using traditional paper maps? Under normal circumstances, if you prepare according to the above points, there will not be anything too dangerous. But there are always surprises! What should you do if you accidentally delete all the waypoints and tracks in a panic, or encounter GPS damage and have to activate another backup navigation device? At this time, all electronically recorded waypoints are lost, and GPS can only tell you the latitude and longitude of a current location (just like the guy at the beginning). Don't panic, take out the paper map (or those marked satellite maps we printed before departure), choose a point with a clear latitude and longitude, of course, preferably the POI you marked on the printed paper - if this is not available, You can only find the nearest integer longitude and latitude intersection on a paper map.
