The GPS module has a parameter for the number of channels, for example, the latest model is 16 channels, which means that the module can establish communication with up to 16 satellites at the same time. The module can only obtain correct positioning data after complex calculations after receiving signals from more than 3 satellites at the same time. If the number of satellites communicating at the same time is more, the module can obtain positioning data faster and more accurately, On the Earth's surface, it is only possible to communicate with 16 satellites simultaneously under particularly ideal geographical conditions, and in general urban environments, it is usually possible to communicate with 4-8 satellites simultaneously.
The GPS module has two parameters: cold start and hot start. If the GPS module is powered on for the first time or after moving more than 1000 kilometers, the module needs to recalculate the ephemeris data, which usually takes 1-5 minutes. Then, the ephemeris data is stored inside the module, which is stored by the lithium battery inside the module. This is called cold start and requires a longer time. If the next time the power is turned on, because the lithium battery has already saved valid ephemeris data, it can quickly locate, usually within 30 seconds, so it is called a hot start. If the module is powered off for more than 10 hours and the lithium battery discharges and emits light, then restarting it is also equivalent to a cold start
