GPS Capabilities

　　First, GPS can provide you with location services, but it can't work forever. This is a very important point. 　　Second, GPS can tell you where to go, but it can't do it for you. Sounds like a fool, right? However, this often happens in practical field applications: don't think that if you take GPS, you will not get lost. In many cases, you know that you should go in a certain direction, but you just can't get through. Therefore, practical experience in the field is very important, and GPS is only a means to help you guide the way.

　　Third, GPS can tell you the current position, but it can't tell you the terrain around you. After knowing your location, the surrounding terrain needs the support of maps: whether it is a paper map, an electronic scanning map in a PDA, or a vector map in a handset, these are the sources of terrain information.

　　Fourth, GPS can help you remember the road you have traveled, but it cannot reproduce perfectly. When you climb the mountain, the route you have passed is recorded by track in GPS, which may consist of dozens or hundreds of track points. If you get lost on the way and need to go back along the original route, GPS can convert these track points into WAYPOINT, and then guide you to go back to the starting place one by one. Due to the limitation of GPS, the converted waypoints can only have 30 or fewer, so the route composed of waypoints (ROUTE) is much rougher than the original track.
