Since many receivers can use appropriate software to enable users to present information such as longitude and latitude, it is necessary to conduct automatic measurement in a more standardized way. Fortunately, there are many receivers that can send signals to the PXI controller through the well-known NMEA-183 protocol. In this way, the receiver will be able to continuously transmit relevant instructions through the serial or USB connection line. In NI LabVIEW, all instructions can convert syntax to return satellite and positioning information. The NMEA-183 protocol can support six basic instructions, and each represents its own proprietary information
In terms of actual test needs, GGA, GSA, and GSV instructions should be the most practical. It is worth mentioning that the information of GSA instruction can be used to know whether the receiver can meet the requirements of positioning operation, or can be used to measure the time to first fix (TTFF). When carrying out highly sensitive measurements, we can actually use the GSV command to return the C/N (Carrier to noise) ratio for the tracked satellite.
