At present, the volume of locators on the market is generally only the size of a palm. If only basic positioning functions are installed, there are many places to choose to install. If more anti-theft functions are needed, the choice of installation location is limited, and most of them need to be installed near the main control. Therefore, car owners face a choice, which is to choose a more complete anti-theft function, but it is easy for people who steal cars to discover and remove it, or to choose to install it in a hidden place inside the car. Otherwise, car thieves will know and increase the time to find the locator, in order to buy valuable time to prevent or retrieve the vehicle in a timely manner.

At present, there are two main types of GPS locators on the market based on their power supply: one is a built-in battery that does not require external power supply; Another type is the built-in backup battery, which mainly relies on the vehicle's power supply.

The advantage of the former is that it can be placed in any corner of the car without the need for wiring, and can be used for personal or valuable item positioning. The disadvantage is that there is no continuous power supply, so after the standby time, it needs to be recharged for continued use. Moreover, due to the need for charging, it is not convenient to place it in complex areas inside the vehicle, making each disassembly and assembly very time-consuming and laborious.

The wiring type needs to be connected to the vehicle's power supply line, so car thieves can search for the GPS locator along the power supply line and remove it. If other functions are installed, the installation position of the locator can be basically determined. Of course, there is no need to worry about GPS locators not functioning properly to prevent theft. If a vibration alarm function is installed and the thief does not start the vehicle with the car key for a certain period of time after opening the door, GPS locators will send vibration alarms to car owners through text messages and phone calls, achieving real-time anti-theft effects. This is because it is through text messages and phone calls, even if the car owner is thousands of miles away, they can immediately know that someone is stealing a car and take relevant measures such as alerting or remotely cutting off fuel and power to prevent theft.
