GPSMouse integrates the GPS module, antenna, and serial/USB port conversion chip together, and connects them to the USB port of a laptop through a 1-1.5m cable. The USB interface can transmit GPS positioning information and also provide power to the GPS module. GPSMouse is very suitable for laptop vehicle navigation, but it is not suitable for walking. The vast majority of electronic map software reads GPS information on the serial port through NMEAV2.0 or higher standards. If GPS is directly designed as a USB port, there will be compatibility issues. However, by converting chips through serial/USB ports and installing drivers on computing devices, the USB port can be simulated as a serial port, with excellent compatibility. In fact, both CF and Bluetooth GPS receivers need to be simulated as serial ports in order to be recognized by electronic map software.

　　In addition to the NMEA data interface protocol, the most well-known is Garmin's dedicated Garmin protocol for GPS. Garmin's own mapping software only supports the Garmin protocol, and Google EarthPro/Plus and OziExplorer currently also support the Garmin protocol.
