In fact, the earliest civilian GPS devices were GPS devices that could be used independently. This type of device can be divided into handheld and car mounted devices, with independent display screens for displaying map or waypoint and track information. Most of them have integrated electronic map functions (commonly known as map machines), and their volume is generally relatively large, with prices ranging from 1000 to 9000 yuan, with significant differences in functionality. The two most famous suppliers of independent civilian GPS are both from the United States, namely Garmin and Magellan, and their products can be purchased domestically. 　　Independent GPS generally also has a data interface to connect to a laptop, most of which are serial ports, and some use USB or Bluetooth interfaces. The main purpose of these interfaces is not to transmit positioning signals in real-time to computing devices, but to replicate information such as tracks and maps between GPS devices and computers, making it inconvenient to connect laptops to transmit positioning information. Laptops are rarely equipped with serial ports, so connecting serial ports requires a serial/USB port converter and installing drivers to simulate the USB interface as a serial port.

　　Independent GPS generally does not connect to laptops for use unless it is not a map machine or there is no GPS map for a specific region. We also do not recommend using standalone GPS in the application mode that is mainly used in conjunction with laptops.
