The most mature and widely used satellite positioning system currently is the GPS system in the United States, which has penetrated into various aspects of global economic life. The GPS system was built in the United States in 1994. GPS is a medium range circular orbit satellite positioning system that can provide accurate positioning, velocity measurement, and high-precision time standards for the vast majority of 98% of the Earth's surface.
The GLONASS system in Russia had already been implemented during the Soviet era in 1976, but due to financial issues and the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the total number of satellites in orbit for this system is currently 26, of which only 20 are functioning properly.
