BeiDou is a global positioning and communication system (CNSS) developed by China itself, and is the third mature Satellite navigation after the United States Global Positioning System (GPS) and Russia GLONASS. That is, the "Chinese version" of GPS. This navigation system is composed of a space end, a ground end, and a user end. It can provide high-precision, highly reliable positioning, navigation, and timing services for various users around the world, 24/7, and has short message communication capabilities. 　　The "Twelfth Five Year Plan" for the Development of Navigation and Location Services Technology issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology in September 2012 clearly states that by the end of the "Twelfth Five Year Plan", the navigation and location services industry needs to form a scale of over 100 billion yuan, establish 5 high-tech industrialization bases, cultivate 30 innovative enterprises, and form about 10 demonstration and experimental applications.

　　According to the prediction of the China Satellite Navigation and Positioning Association, by 2015, the output value of China's satellite navigation and location service industry will exceed 225 billion yuan; By 2020, China will have built the Beidou Global Satellite Navigation and Positioning System, and the user base of China's satellite navigation and location industry will become the world's largest. The annual output value will exceed 400 billion yuan, with 20% of the contribution coming from export revenue.

　　For a long time, due to China's relative backwardness in key technologies and production in the navigation field, GPS has been almost in a monopoly position in China. In fields such as power transmission, communication, and finance, there is a serious reliance on GPS.

　　According to the consulting center of the China Satellite Navigation and Positioning Association, as of the end of 2011, the social holdings of China's Beidou-1 terminal were over 100000 sets, with only 50-60 participating enterprises and an annual output value of around 300 million to 400 million yuan; In 2011, the total sales of GPS navigation terminals exceeded 45 million units, with a production value of nearly 70 billion yuan, and more than 6800 participating enterprises.
